These Terms apply to the Roost website, study and planning application, and Roost connections made available for supported AI assistants. Roost is independently operated by a solo developer. Questions about the service or these Terms can be sent to [email protected].
1. Using Roost
Roost helps you organize coursework, keep notes, plan study time, and prepare study material. Some features use third-party school services or AI providers. Availability depends on your account, supported platforms, current connection state, service limits, and the permissions of those providers.
You must have the legal capacity or authorization required to use the service and must use it consistently with applicable law. Roost does not currently offer a verified parental-consent process. Do not use another person's account or provide information you lack authority to access, use, or share.
2. Your account and connections
Keep your sign-in methods secure, use accurate account information, and notify Roost if you suspect unauthorized access. Do not share passwords, session cookies, one-time codes, access tokens, or private sign-in links through support messages or public posts.
Connect only school accounts and other services you are permitted to use. A connection may require an additional sign-in or multifactor authentication and may expire. You are responsible for deciding whether connecting a service or sending its content to AI is consistent with your school, instructor, employer, provider, or other applicable requirements.
Roost is an independent service. The availability of a connection does not mean that a school, publisher, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or another provider endorses Roost or guarantees the connection's coverage.
3. Your content and permissions
You retain any rights you have in notes, drafts, documents, and other content you provide. School and publisher materials remain subject to the rights of their respective owners.
To provide the features you request, you authorize Roost and the service providers involved to receive, process, store, reproduce and transmit your content as described in the Privacy Policy. For example, this permits synchronizing notes, extracting document text, generating requested study aids, or returning selected information to an assistant you authorize. This permission is limited to operating and protecting the service and responding to your requests; it does not transfer ownership of your content to Roost.
Do not provide content that unlawfully infringes another person's rights. Roost does not require you to submit unrelated sensitive information. If your documents contain information about other people, consider whether that information is necessary for the task and whether you are entitled to share it.
4. Study material and AI results
AI can make mistakes, omit relevant material, misread handwriting or equations, and produce inaccurate or incomplete answers. Imported coursework can be incomplete or outdated. Review important facts, source passages, equations, deadlines and instructions against the original material.
Roost's suggestions, practice results and study plans are aids to learning. They are not official grades, school decisions, professional advice, or guarantees of academic performance. You remain responsible for work you submit and for following your instructor's academic-integrity and AI-use rules.
Where Roost offers review, save, apply, or undo controls, inspect the proposed result before accepting it. A generated response or prepared plan is not confirmation that an external action occurred.
5. External AI assistants
An assistant connection requires your authorization in Roost. The current tools provide read access to coursework, selected source material, saved notes or drafts, uploaded extracted text, and connection status. They do not submit schoolwork, start assessment attempts, change grades, or edit your saved study workspace.
Information returned to Claude, ChatGPT, or another supported assistant is shared with that service and may become part of your conversation there. Its separate terms and privacy settings apply. You can revoke a Roost grant through Connect AI โ Disconnect, but this does not delete information already received by the assistant. A request already authorized and in progress may complete.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use Roost to gain unauthorized access, bypass school or service restrictions, impersonate another person, submit malicious content, distribute unlawful material, expose other users' information, or interfere with the service. Do not attempt to obtain server credentials, evade usage controls, exploit vulnerabilities against other accounts, or overload the service.
You may report a suspected vulnerability to the contact above. Describe the issue using the minimum information needed to investigate it; do not access or disclose other people's data to demonstrate it.
7. Service limits and changes
Roost applies request, storage, concurrency, and spending limits. A limit or unavailable provider can stop a new operation while saved material remains accessible. An interrupted AI or browser operation may still count toward a service allowance where its processing or cost cannot be confirmed. These allowances are operating controls, not a promise of unlimited availability.
Features and supported connections can change. Roost may restrict an operation or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address misuse, unauthorized access, security concerns, legal requirements, or service integrity. Where practical and lawful, Roost will explain the restriction and how to seek review. Contact support if you believe access was restricted in error.
Third-party account subscriptions and fees are governed by those providers. If Roost introduces a paid plan, its price and applicable payment terms will be disclosed before you agree to purchase it; these Terms do not authorize an undisclosed charge.
8. Privacy, exports, and stopping use
The Roost Privacy Policy explains information collection, recipients, retention, and available controls. You can export the study workspace and learning history covered by the respective controls, clear temporary AI results, delete learning-history categories, reset the study workspace, and revoke assistant grants.
These actions have different effects. Workspace reset is not account deletion, and assistant disconnection does not delete saved school sessions, coursework, or external chats. Roost does not currently provide a complete self-service account and connected-data purge. Contact [email protected] for requests beyond the available controls.
Keep your own copies of important original materials and any exports you need. Do not rely on a study workspace export as a complete backup of every connected platform or server record. Stopping use does not erase records that remain under the retention rules in the Privacy Policy.
9. Reliability and responsibility
Roost does not promise uninterrupted service, support for every school system, complete source coverage, error-free AI output, or a particular academic result. Availability and accuracy can be affected by third-party changes, expired sign-ins, document formats, network failures and service limits.
Roost's responsibilities and any liability are governed by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms excludes responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded, removes mandatory consumer protections, or limits non-waivable privacy rights. These Terms do not require you to indemnify Roost for its own misconduct or surrender legal rights as a condition of making a privacy request.
10. Updates and questions
Changes to these Terms will be posted with an updated effective date. Material changes will be identified on the terms page, and any additional notice or agreement required by law will be obtained before those changes apply. An update does not retroactively authorize a charge or remove a right that cannot lawfully be waived.
Applicable law determines the enforceability of these Terms and the rights and remedies available to you. For service questions, a concern about these Terms, or a request to review an account restriction, contact [email protected].
